General Newsletter

The YLP is open to all applicants, regardless of relationship to an active member of the FBINAA, who meet the following basic qualifications:

Rising Sophomore & Juniors, who will be age 14, 15, or 16 at the start of the YLP session;

• Must have an equivalent of a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 grading scale;

• Must have a satisfactory school attendance and citizenship record;

• Must be physically capable of participating in all elements of the YLP; and,

• Must have health insurance.

 

A few deadlines:

February 2,2026

Deadline for Applications submitted to the Chapter/Association YLP Chairs.

March 27,2026

All Candidate Nominations Packages due at FBINAA Executive Office.

No candidate nominations will be accepted after this date.

Interviews most likely in late February or early March 2026.

This year the program runs from July 8,2026 to July 17, 2026

News of the Membership

Simon Happer - Session 236, retired from the Overland Park Police Department on December 5th

Chief Dawn Layman - Session 251, retired from the Lenexa, Kansas Police Department, and is taking over as Chief of Police in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Ryan Miller - Session 280, has been promoted to Deputy Chief in Overland Park, KS.

Eric Schmitz - Session 292, was promoted to Chief of Police in Lenexa, KS. 

Matt Kellogg - Session 275, was promoted to Deputy Chief in Liberty, MO. 

Robert McClarty - Session 261, retired from KLETC.

In case you missed it in a prior communication, Floyd Bradley, Session 97, passed away on December 4, 2025.
