IMPORTANT: POTENTIAL DATA BREACH
It was just reported that a number of law enforcement agencies, organizations, and programs were potentially compromised in a data breach. Unfortunately, our chapter web page is one of those organizations. There is little exposure for our members with one exception: It was this website that was used for event registration and credit card payment for retrainers and social events. To our knowledge no card information was stored. We are trying to find out more details and facts, and we will keep members posted as we learn more.
For further information or assistance watch for emails from the chapter. Members should remain vigilant by reviewing account statements and monitoring free credit reports. If you wish to contact consumer reporting agencies (credit bureaus) their phone numbers are as follows.
Equifax: 1-888-548-7878
TransUnion: 1-800-916-8800
Experian: 1-800-493-1058
SEPTEMBER TRAINING DAY – CHANGE OF DATE
Plans are finalized for a single day of training, business meeting, and a dinner in Olathe on Wednesday, September 9th. Details and registration information are attached.
We are closing our web page in anticipation of changing web hosting. Registration will be by mail or email only. Credit card payments can be made by mail, email, or by calling Secretary/Treasurer Steve Cox.
The business meeting will include the election of a Second Vice President from Kansas. Contact 2nd Vice President Erik Holland ([email protected]) to apply for this position.
The banquet will include award of both the Spring and Fall 2020 Clarence M. Kelley awards. The Spring selection has already been made. Please see the attached document for details on nominating a Missouri member for the Fall 2020 award.
CHANGE TO THE NEWSLETTER
The chapter board has decided that limited advertising will be allowed in the newsletter as a way of keeping good relations with vendors and sponsors who are unable to connect with members at events. A number of chapters are already doing this. The board is sensitive to the fact that we don’t want ads to overwhelm the news of the chapter and its membership.
NEWS OF THE MEMBERSHIP
Tom Phillips, 188th, is retiring from his second career on August 31st. Tom served for 31 years with the Jackson County (MO) Sheriff’s Office, including several terms as Sheriff. He topped that off with 12 years as Executive Director of Public Safety for the Blue Springs Public Schools. Congratulations on a stellar 43 years in service to the community!! Now that you will have more time on your hands, stay involved with the chapter!
Please keep sending news to Secretary/Treasurer Steve Cox, 143rd, for inclusion in future newsletters. Email [email protected]

DATA BREACH UPDATE
The one factual detail I have today is that both the chapter email address [email protected] and my cell number 913-201-1153 have already been posted on the Dark Web. Although I haven’t seen any increase in spam email yet, I have gotten several suspicious text messages. Given Covid scams, election season, and this hack, I am not answering any phone calls from numbers not in my contacts. If you or someone on your staff needs to reach out to me for card payment or other business, please leave a voice mail and I will call back.
You may get suspicious emails that appear to be from me. If in doubt, call me!
The FBI cyber group is investigating, and I have heard from them. I will notify everyone of details as they are revealed to me.
Thanks,
Steve

DATA BREACH
No update at this point; refer to the most recent newsletter for the fine print and advice.
It is known that the chapter email address and Sec/Treas Steve Cox mobile phone number have been posted on the dark web. Gmail’s spam filter has done well blocking bad emails, but the phone number is being targeted. Steve is not answering any calls from numbers not in his contacts. Please text or leave voice mail, or use email.
CHAPTER LOGO ARTWORK WANTED
We would like to locate a high-resolution version of the chapter logo that appears at the top of the page. The best and most recent we can find is a .gif that is not top quality. If you know anything about the logo history – it probably goes back to the 2004 conference era – please contact Sec/Treas Steve Cox [email protected]gmail.com
NEW CHAPTER WEBSITE COMING
A new chapter website should be in place in the next few weeks. We are contracting with a company that specializes in creating and hosting sites for chapters of larger organizations. It will offer some great features, but like any website, it is only as good as the quality and freshness of content.
SEPTEMBER TRAINING DAY
We continue to finalize plans for the single day of training, business meeting, and dinner in Olathe on Wednesday, September 9th. You should have received registration and other details with an earlier newsletter. For group rates on hotel rooms, use meeting code FBI. We continue to monitor the latest information and directives regarding the coronavirus pandemic, and we will act accordingly.
Registration will be by mail or email only. Credit card payments can be made by mail, email, or by calling Secretary/Treasurer Steve Cox.

PISTOL COMPETITION
Jeff Herrman, 138th, has arranged for NAA and FBI shooters to compete in an annual event in Camden County, MO. Here is basic information; contact Jeff for more info and to register
“To NAA and FBI pistol competitors: With the cancellation of the fall retrainer and pistol competition at the Lake we have been invited to attend the Camden County, MO annual fund-raising match. Camden County Sheriff Tony Helms (a long time friend of the NA) has invited any NA member, or FBI employee to participate in the Annual Camden County Sheriff’s Office Competition. Match registration is $30.00 for everyone except NA and FBI competitors. Our fee will be $15.00 per person. Ammunition will be provided for NA/FBI participants. The match normally has 5 or 6 short courses to challenge people of all skill levels. Sheriff Helms hated to see our annual competition cancelled and has therefore offered us this special invite. I’ve competed in the match for several years and they normally have a large selection of door prizes. The facility is large enough that Covid 19 safeguards will be in place. Competitors can wear safety masks if they want to. The match will be held September 26th, 2020. Competition will begin at 10:00am. Anyone who wants to attend please contact me: Jeff Herrman, 785-248-6032. [email protected] I’ll get you a registration form and ensure that there is sufficient ammunition in the caliber you will be using. I can also field any other questions you might have. We will be sending out a second reminder closer to the match date. Please try to register early. Thank you, Jeff Herrman”
