Proposed
Amendment to the Constitution and By-Laws
Shall the following change
be adopted:
ARTICLE VI. ELECTION OF THE OFFICERS OF THE
ASSOCIATION Section
1. ELECTION OF OFFICERS: a. The Executive Board Officers of this
Association shall be elected
separately at the regular Fall business meeting of each year. The candidate receiving a simple majority of
the votes shall be declared elected to the open Board position(s). These positions will be elected from the
eligible Active and Retired members present and in good standing as indicated
in Article IV, Section 1. The Officers moving
up in succession and elected shall be sworn in at the fall Re-Trainer, and
they shall immediately assume the duties of their respective offices.
Explanation
No
real purpose is served by having a “lame duck” period after election of
officers. To the contrary, the last few
months of the year is a time of little chapter activity, and the change allows
newly-elected officers to settle in to their roles at a quiet time.
The
current chapter President, Randy Henderson, will have a shorter term than would
have otherwise occurred, but after that subsequent
officers will be able to serve a full year term. President Henderson has no objection to a
shorter term in order to make this change for the good of the organization.
This
proposal mirrors the action taken by the National Board several years back to
eliminate their nearly six months of “lame duck” office-holding.
